IMPACTS OF TECHNOLOGY

IMPACTS OF TECHNOLOGY ON YOUTHS, WOMEN AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Technology has many impacts on the youth, women, and persons with disabilities; these impacts are positive and negative.

The youth enjoy the technology very much as they can browse, talk to friends and family, and even play video games. Being busy on the internet keeps them occupied, and they can escape from idleness which could make them start using drugs. However, staying on the internet for long has its negative side too, prolonged use of media causes mental health problems. Depression is the main issue which is associated with prolonged use of media. Mental health intervention has increased over time due to the increased rate of suicide by the youths.

Through technology, women have been able to promote gender equality. Women from conflict areas like Afghanistan to Sudan are using technology to build peace and reduce gender inequality. Other than facilitating key functions of daily life, the smartphones and mobile internet also bring women's voices to the world which were once confined. The movement of women in IT has also greatly benefited women by letting them benefit from the technology and working with men in the same field.

Technology has also been of great help to people with disabilities. For instance, technology has helped students with disabilities to be able to compensate for certain impairments. With this technology, disabled individuals have the chance to benefit from it and independently get employment, education, and access to other resources. This technology can affect people with disabilities as it leads to neck pain and bad posture as people spend a lot of time on the machines. Social disparities widen due to technology in health care for people; even children with disabilities are affected.

In conclusion, technology has many impacts in the society. There are positive and negative impacts but the positive impacts are many compared to the negative ones.
